James Norton

PRACTICE PROFILE

James Norton is counsel to Theall Group LLP. He is a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation, and over the past 25 years he has appeared before all levels of the Ontario courts, as well as the Saskatchewan Queen’s Bench and Court of Appeal and the Court of Appeal of British Columbia. Mr. Norton has a varied practice, but his primary focus is products liability, commercial litigation, construction law, property/liability insurance litigation, insurance contracts disputes, professional E&O disputes, environmental impairment liability and bankruptcy litigation. Mr. Norton is an international commercial arbitrator qualified as a Chartered Arbitrator through the Chartered Institute in London UK. He has sat as a sole arbitrator. He has sat an Arbitrator-Judge in the Willem C. Vis International Moot Competition, which is held in Vienna and Hong Kong annually. He has also appeared on many occasions as counsel before sole arbitrators and arbitration panels representing divergent interests including professional engineers and architects, contractors and manufacturers.

Professional Involvement

Mr. Norton is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates’ Society and the International Bar Association. He is also a member of the Panel of Arbitrators for the CIArb (London), Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, and the KLRAC, as well as the London Court of International Arbitration – Asia Pacific Council (LCIA), the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Arbitration Centre. Mr. Norton belongs to the International, Thai-Canada and American Chambers of Commerce.
